WORKSHOPS: Local musician Graeme Stephenson from bands Just Me and The Swets will be running guitar workshops as part of the Whyalla Music Association next week.Have you ever wanted to get some great guitar playing tips from some of Whyalla’s well known working musicians? Well now is your chance.
Whyalla Music Association is going to present a guitar workshop for budding guitar enthusiasts.
The workshops will not only provide discussion on a range of topics on popular instrument the guitar, but will also feature some demonstrations on techniques that can be used for playing as an individual or in a duo.
In addition to tips, techniques and demonstrations, there will also be some discussion on amplifiers, FX pedals and general set up and maintenance of the guitar.
Presenters and musicians for the workshop include Graeme Stephenson from local bands Just Me and The Swets and Colby Krawczyk from Twice Shy, both of whom are very experienced musicians and well known in Whyalla.
Whyalla Music Association chairperson Ron Hay said the workshop came as a request from a number of youth artists that had been mentored by the group.
“Our organisation has seen this type of workshop as a next step in providing some additional skills and knowledge, to assist them in being on stage and better understanding some of the other equipment they may use,” Mr Hay said.
“One of the objectives of the Whyalla Music Association, is to support and develop individual musicians and this is a very effective way to do it.”
The youth artist section of the Whyalla Music Association is called the Musicians Initiative.
Some of these students will be attending the workshops and Mr Hay believes this will be a good chance for those who attend to speak with the younger generation of musos.
The workshop will be held on Wednesday, May 7 6pm at the RSL Clubrooms on Essington Lewis Avenue.
There will be a small cover charge of $5 for non-members of the Whyalla Music Association.
