Deirdre Stubbs and Barbara WattersTHE combination of Barbara Watters and Deidre Stubbs won the Workmens Club Valley Women’s Bowling pairs championship in a very exciting victory over Ruth Harries and Gail Coates.
Harries and Coates got away to a commanding lead with precision bowling and after nine ends were in front 13-6.
Watters and Stubbs, who have built up a formidable partnership, combined beautifully to fight their way back into the match.
After scoring an impressive six on one end, the game could have gone either way with the scores locked up at 16-all.
With Stubbs playing great lead bowls and the consistent draw bowls from Watters they were able to win the last four ends to give them the championship 22-19 in a thriller.
The win capped off a great season for Watters, who has won the District pairs with Beryl Evans, the major club singles and now the club pairs championship.
