They married in Lower Hutt, Wellington, on John’s 22nd birthday.

The first of three children, Rick, was born in New Zealand before the young family moved to Australia and settled at Newtown, then in Sutherland Shire where Mark and Laurin were born.

The children took part in local sporting and cultural activities.

In those days, the parents took the boys to play for Sylvania Heights Football Club and later as grandparents the Blackburns took their grandchildren to Nippers.

As the children grew and had families of their own, many Monday evenings were spent at the Blackburn home sharing stories over Heather’s baked dinners, which are a family tradition.

These days Heather and John are enjoying their retirement at Cronulla in the company of their many friends, family and their grandchildren Alexandra, Lachlan and Emlyn, many of whom helped them celebrate the anniversary.
